Short, Animated Storytelling Video to Reduce Addiction Stigma in 13,500 Participants Across Multiple Countries Through an Online Approach: Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial

The video was designed to resonate globally, across cultures, and traverse linguistic, literacy, and educational barriers. We hypothesize that a single exposure to the 2.5-minute intervention video will measurably reduce addiction stigma and boost hope, optimism, and empathy toward people with addiction in three culturally distinct global settings: the United States, the United Kingdom, and South Africa.

Based on the experience from previous studies and the browsing habits of video platform users, namely, they mostly prioritize top search results over extensive browsing on video platforms [22-27], we selected videos that appeared within the top 5 pages of the You Tube interface, which is a total of 60 results for each endoscope for subsequent analysis. Recently, a randomized clinical trial evaluated the impact of video education created by doctors on patients with AF [14]. The results indicated that video education effectively improved AF knowledge and nursing satisfaction among outpatients with AF. Previous animations used to educate patients with AF primarily focused on AF risk factors, symptoms, complications, and pharmacological and nonpharmacological treatments.

Therefore, we hypothesized that even previously trained HCPs may have suboptimal NIHSS knowledge and that a refresher course using an e-learning module could be more effective than the traditional didactic video at improving their NIHSS proficiency. Further, we also hypothesized that knowledge retention at 1 month would be higher after following this interactive module than after reviewing the standard didactic video.

In cine-VR, filmmakers apply the techniques of cinema (ie, narrative storytelling, script writing, actors, lighting, and postproduction) to create an immersive, visually compelling environment [13,14]. We created a cine-VR training program to depict the complexity of geriatric care.
