In addition, compared to paid panels, using paid social media advertisements to recruit research participants has been shown to cost less [11,12] and be more time-efficient [13,14]. Furthermore, it is also suggested that social media can reach larger pools of participants and access hard-to-reach populations [15].

Examples of promotional campaign materials used for an internet-based testing service for sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections (Get Checked Online.com), including online banner advertisements (top), and in print (bottom).
The campaign ran from April to August 2015. We used 3 venue types for promotion, each having a unique route to account creation, permitting us to track testing outcomes (Figures 2 and 3).

The Untapped Potential of the Gaming Community: Narrative Review
With the rise of mobile gaming, advertisements have also started appearing in apps at the top or bottom of the phone screen or as short video clips between levels [37]. These advertisements can be personalized to the user through the use of metadata collected by search engines, social media companies [38], and mobile apps [39], which is thought to make them more effective at reaching their target audience [40,41].
Research has found that IGAs have a strong effect on our implicit memory.

Junk Food Marketing on Instagram: Content Analysis
Importantly and uniquely, social media allows for personalization of advertisements, which increases consumer receptivity of advertising, as it is tailored to their specific needs and interests [10]. Social media users can also communicate with their friends and followers about a brand or product, for example, by tagging a friend, reposting competitions, or tagging brands in their own personal posts.

Using Facebook to Reach People Who Experience Auditory Hallucinations
Facebook advertisements could be used as an effective recruitment tool for mental health studies, excelling in accessing hard-to-reach populations. Previous research has shown that most young people (94%) with SMI use social media [9], and most people with SMI use mobile technologies for communication and the Internet access [10]. Facebook has also been used to successfully recruit Veteran’s for mental health research [11].
