Fisher exact and Mann-Whitney U tests were used to compare DSH incidences, sex, age groups, and co-occurring mental health issues.
Next, a quasi-experiment was conducted using an interrupted time series (ITS) design to estimate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on DSH-related ED visits. Quasi-experiments estimate causal relationships between different factors and outcomes when random assignment is not possible.
