The Society of Digital Psychiatry, in collaboration with JMIR Mental Health—an open-access, peer-reviewed journal published by JMIR Publications—invites you to a webinar titled “Growing Up Online: Social Media, Digital Therapeutics, and Youth Mental Health”.

Join Dr. Iliyan Ivanov and Dr John Torous for an in-depth discussion on the impact of social media and digital therapeutics on youth mental health. Drawing from extensive clinical and research experience, Dr. Ivanov will explore how increased digital device use, remote learning, and social media exposure—particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic—have influenced the assessment, treatment, and outcomes of children, adolescents, and young adults. The session will highlight both challenges and emerging opportunities for clinicians working with digitally immersed youth populations.

Dr Iliyan Ivanov, MD

Dr. Ivanov is a Professor of Psychiatry at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and Division Chief of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Mount Sinai Morningside. His clinical expertise focuses on the assessment and treatment of youths with ADHD, childhood trauma, mood and anxiety disorders, and substance use disorders in adolescents and young adults. He is the author of over 100 peer-reviewed publications, including work in The American Journal of Psychiatry, JAMA Psychiatry, and Neuropsychopharmacology, and has contributed more than 10 chapters to leading psychiatric textbooks, including Kaplan and Sadock’s Comprehensive Textbook of Psychiatry and the Dulcan Textbook of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Dr. Ivanov is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP), a past President and current Board Member of the New York Council on Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and a member of the APA Research Council. His honors include the 2019 Hulse Award from the NY Council on Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and AACAP Outstanding Mentor Awards in 2016 and 2025.

John Torous, MD, MBI; Cofounder, Society of Digital Psychiatry

Dr Torous is the director of the Digital Psychiatry division in the Department of Psychiatry at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, an affiliated teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School, where he also serves as a staff psychiatrist and member of the academic faculty. He has a background in electrical engineering and computer sciences; he earned his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley, before pursuing medical school at the University of California, San Diego. Dr Torous completed his psychiatry residency, fellowship in clinical informatics, and master’s degree in biomedical informatics at Harvard. He actively investigates the potential of mobile mental health technologies for psychiatry and has published over 200 peer-reviewed articles and 5 book chapters on the subject. Dr Torous serves as the editor-in-chief of JMIR Mental Health.
