In this webinar, Holly Coole, Dr Gareth Hopkin, and Dr. John Torous will discuss a newly developed framework that categorizes DMHTs across eight key domains, providing a structured approach to improve clarity and application. Holly Coole
Holly Coole is a senior manager for digital mental health at the MHRA and leads a Wellcome Trust funded project to explore the clinical evaluation and regulation of digital mental health technologies. She previously worked as the Patient Safety and Innovation Manager at NHS Supply Chain. Holly has a background in psychiatric nursing, previously working for Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust as a Community Psychiatric Nurse for several years. She also has experience in various mental healthcare services, including community psychiatric nursing, inpatient forensic, older adults, and child and adolescent mental health. Holly has also undertaken training in cognitive behavioural therapy and brings her own insights to lived experience of mental health.
Gareth Hopkin
Gareth is a Scientific Adviser in the Science Policy and Research Team at the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) in England. He is leading for NICE on a Wellcome-funded project on regulation and evaluation of digital mental health technologies alongside working on other research projects relating to a range of health conditions and types of technologies. He began his career working in mental health research and completed a PhD in Health Services Research at King’s College London. He has also previously worked for several other health technology assessment agencies in the UK and Canada and has extensive experience in health economics and outcomes research.

Dr Torous is the director of the Digital Psychiatry division in the Department of Psychiatry at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, an affiliated teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School, where he also serves as a staff psychiatrist and member of the academic faculty. He has a background in electrical engineering and computer sciences; he earned his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley, before pursuing medical school at the University of California, San Diego. Dr Torous completed his psychiatry residency, fellowship in clinical informatics, and master’s degree in biomedical informatics at Harvard. He actively investigates the potential of mobile mental health technologies for psychiatry and has published over 200 peer-reviewed articles and 5 book chapters on the subject. Dr Torous serves as the editor-in-chief of JMIR Mental Health.
