Mariana Bolivar, MSc

Mariana has been working for 14 years in programme design, management, monitoring and evaluation of programmes in global health and development. At MQ she leads lines of research in wider determinants of mental health and the links between mental health and digital technologies.

Before joining MQ she worked at the BMJ as Project Manager of a 13 million USD global health program, using digital learning technologies to improve clinical skills in infectious diseases. In Colombia, she worked in various United Nations programmes and co-led MASUNO, a mental health innovation using customer service technology to support people in the pandemic through trusted information and psychological counseling.

Mariana is member of WARMI Mental Health, a network to improve women’s mental

health across the Americas. Her education includes an MSc. in Population and

Development from the London School of Economics and professional accreditations in randomized controlled trials and program management.

Tawanda Murepa, BSc

Tawanda Murepa, Founder and Executive Secretary of Young People Mental Health Trust and Co-Founder of wEvolve Consultancy, is a mental health advocate with a BSc in Psychology from Midlands State University. Holding certifications in mental health and human rights, he co-directs the Drug and Substance use Prevention Among Primary Students (DASS) project in Zimbabwe.

With five years of experience in anti-drug campaigns and mental wellness workshops, Murepa engages at the international level as a Global Mental Health Peer Network member and Catalyst 2030 participant. He has created YO-PETALTH WhatsApp platforms supporting over 60,000 individuals since 2019.

Recognized for his impactful work, Murepa has received numerous awards including the 2022 Top Social Entrepreneur 30 under 30 and the 2023 Mental Health Advocacy in Educational Institutions award.

John Torous, MD, MBI; Cofounder, Society of Digital Psychiatry

Dr Torous is the director of the Digital Psychiatry division in the Department of Psychiatry at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, an affiliated teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School, where he also serves as a staff psychiatrist and member of the academic faculty. He has a background in electrical engineering and computer sciences; he earned his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley, before pursuing medical school at the University of California, San Diego. Dr Torous completed his psychiatry residency, fellowship in clinical informatics, and master’s degree in biomedical informatics at Harvard. He actively investigates the potential of mobile mental health technologies for psychiatry and has published over 200 peer-reviewed articles and 5 book chapters on the subject. Dr Torous serves as the editor-in-chief of JMIR Mental Health.
